The Little Half

The Little Half in 2021

To ensure everyone had a safe, secure and enjoyable day at The Big Half this year we put a range of social distancing measures in place. As a consequence, we had to reduce the number of other events we held on Sunday 22 August.

This meant that The Little Half did not go ahead as planned in 2021. However, the good news is the medals for the event will be going to support a great cause...

Inspiring children to get active

We’re delighted to be donating nearly 2,000 The Little Half medals to the Holiday Activity and Food programme, to help it inspire children to be active over the summer.

Children from across Greenwich who attend the programmes will be able to take part in lots of different physical activities at sports clubs, community centres, holiday clubs and nurseries, with lots of lucky children receiving a The Little Half medal to keep as a souvenir.

You can find out more about the programme by watching this short film featuring Marcus Rashford MBE.

plans for 2022

We’re planning to bring The Little Half back for 2022, so please read on if you’d like a taste of what might be in store for you then...

About The Little Half

As its name suggests, The Little Half is a shorter version of The Big Half. But while it may be little, it’s certainly not lacking in fun!

The Little Half covers just 2.3 miles, but they are not any old 2.3 miles – they are the last 2.3 miles of The Big Half course itself, starting in Surrey Quays and finishing near the spectacular Cutty Sark in Greenwich.

For all ages and abilities

This means that as well as The Little Half being an accessible distance for people of all ages and abilities – in fact, there are no age limits to taking part – the event offers the perfect opportunity for even the youngest children to experience the unforgettable atmosphere of a mass participation running event at its most exciting and inspiring point: the run-up to the finish!

Run with family and friends

Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult – so why not make the event a family affair by running with your relatives, or encourage a group of friends to join you for this fun day out in the capital?

All you need to remember is that everyone who wants to get involved (including children) needs to be registered in order to take part – but the good news is entry is free to those aged under 18 and just £5 for all other participants.

In 2020 around 1,200 people took on The Little Half challenge, which for many was their first timed running event. Hopefully it will have inspired them to remain active for many years to come.
