The Vitality Big Half was created by London Marathon Events Ltd, in partnership with Sported, with the first event taking place on Sunday March 4 2018.

The Vitality Big Half features:

  • The Vitality Big Half: A half marathon starting next to Tower Bridge and finishing at the iconic Cutty Sark in Greenwich
  • The Little Half: a fun, family-friendly mass-participation over 2.4 miles from Southwark Park to the Cutty Sark
  • The New Balance Big Relay: Participants run The Vitality Big Half in teams of four, with each person taking on a leg over distances ranging from one mile to five miles
  • The Vitality Big Festival: a free celebration of London’s diverse culture, food and music, which will take place throughout the day in Greenwich Park
  • The Vitality Big Mile: a free, family-friendly mass participation one mile fun run around Greenwich Park

Event Facts and Figures

11,510 people finished the first edition of The Vitality Big Half in 2018
Sir Mo Farah (61:40) and Charlotte Purdue (70:29) won the elite men and women’s race in 2018.
Swiss wheelchair stars Marcel Hug (51:36) and Manuela Schar (56:39) won the elite wheelchair races in 2018.
The fastest celebrities to have completed The Vitality Big Half are Paralympian Danny Crates (1:49:50) and Olympic rowing medallist Mel Wilson (1:49:50) who finished side by side in 2018.
This year, 17,662 runners have registered to run The Vitality Big Half including more than 4,000 from runners from the four host boroughs: Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich.
1,771 runners have registered for The Little Half and 1,418 for The Vitality Big Mile.
Nine acts will be playing on The Vitality Big Stage in The Vitality Big Festival in Greenwich Park, showcasing a selection of the hottest up and coming acts and local community performers.
Dedicated water bins for plastic bottles will be trialled at Mile 6 where runners will be encouraged to drop their plastic bottles.
Oohos filled with Lucozade Sport will be trialled at The Vitality Big Half. These seaweed-based compostable sachets will reduce plastic bottle use by 10,000 units.
